first of all, i am a complete retard/idiot/neophyte in sound recording. with that out of the way, i am able to get recordings the way i want them to sound on my 424, but i need to know what the best way to mix them down is. i have tried mixing them into a computer, and i am only able to get mono stuff. how could i mix the recording down in stereo, into the computer, and have it still in stereo, with my pan settings from the 424 safe and intact. ( i have been using a stereo quarter inch and running it from the headfone jack in the 424 to the computer's mic input. using stereo adapters. using cool edit pro 2.0 software. )

Have you tried using a 2 RCA to stereo jack cable to connect the line ins on the 424 to the line in on your soundcard?

Oh. And what software are you mixing down to? Maybe you have that set for mono.

I am not sure about how to get your tracks into the pc with your current setup.
(1)May I suggest an interface, I use one made by M-Audio. It's relatively inexpensive and the sound quality is good.
(2) Try to record directly into to the PC, This should also help the sound quailty
