My RCA outs are acting up too. I'm taking mine into the shop. although I would like to learn how to work on this unit too because I use it all the time. Good luck.
Most of the time the RCA Line Out jacks become loose and intermittent from the solder joints breaking down.
To open up the unit there are about 8 screws on the bottom to remove. The top and bottom halves are connected with cables, which need to be disconnected to separate the halves all the way. I seem to remember the tape mechanism has to be dismounted from the base to get the bottom circuit board removed entirely from the base of the unit. The RCA connector solder joints should be unsoldered and resoldered & the Portastudio reassembled in reverse order of disassembly.
I have a thread here from a couple years ago that has some pictures of the disassembled 424mkIII. The RCA Line Outs became very intermittent and were fixed. I have one other unit that still needs fixing for the same reason. I don't know about "buzzing", but the RCA connectors are a weak point.
