Tascam 414 take up spool not working in play mode

Hi
My son gave me an old 414 and when I insert tape and press play, the take up spool does not turn so tape spaghetti runs wild. When in FF or Rewind mode the spool works normally. How can I troubleshoot this and pinpoint the error. As far as I can see, the capstan and pinch roller seem to working (turning).

Is that a cassette? I dont know if this applies to you, but my tascam 112 did the same thing. I opened it up and found one of my idler tires had disintegrated.
 
+1 I'd go ahead and replace all the rubber parts, just to be safe.
 
Thanks for replies. Is there some diagram or schematic available which will show how these rubbers are removed? Also, this is a discontinued model so would tascam sell the required parts? RFR, yes it is cassette. many thanks for help.
 
Don't know if you can get it through tascam without knowing a part #. But. .
there is an eBay seller that has or can get most all of the rubber for most machines. don't recall the name, but search for tascam 112, 246, da30 belts and you'll find the seller. He's reliable and quick, pretty reasonable too.
 
I am in the UK and ebay search didn't show any results. To strip the unit, is it just the screws on the back or the cassette compartment also. Thanks
