Is it possible for me to connect 6 mics?? I want to record my mates drum kit. I know how to do it with 4 mics plugged in but not sure about the extra 2.

I take it that you have six mic inputs. If so, you will have to buss all of your mic channels to tape tracks. You will not be able to record direct to the tracks. Or in combination of direct and bussing. It will screw up your recording.

Either way you're going to have more than one mic signal on at least two of the tracks.

I have 4 mic inputs at the front of the console. At the rear of the panel i also have two 1/4" inputs called Stereo Inputs. Can i use these and how would i do it?

I'm not familiar with your deck, but I would treat them as separate channels. You need a block diagram that came with your unit to know where and how the stereo in's are routed.

What do the channel strips look like that the stereo in's are feeding? Does it even have a channel strips for the stereo in's?

Maybe someone else here can help?

The 414 has a switch on each input channel that lets you choose wether the channel is assigned to a single track or it's respective bus. The stereo inputs (5/6 & 7/8) go directly to the main L/R bus along with the sub in. the only difference between the stereo ins and the sub in is the connectors (TRS and RCA respectively. Whatever you record with the stereo or sub ins will end up L on tracks 1&3 and R on tracks 2&4.

Do you really need 6 drum mics?

Will i get just as good a recording of the kit with 4 mics as opposed to 6 mics? If i use the 6 mics, do i set the levels just as i would using tracks 1-4?

If it's a single bass drum kit, you might give it a try with just the four mic's: bass, snare, and 2 overheads left and right. I've even had good success on a 414 with just 3 mics - bass and 2 overheads - bring the overheads in from behind the drummer - kind of like looking down over his shoulders - that will pick up the snare, toms, hi-hats and cymbals quite well.
