Hi, have a Tascam Portastudio 244 that we did all our early band demos on back in Australia back in the day. My friend turned it on and as suspected, the belts have probably perished. He said he can hear the motor spinning fast. I will visit him soon from my home in Bangkok and plan to digitise the old recordings while I'm there. I don't want to have to bring the 244 back with me. My plan is to refurbish the rubber parts, belts etc and hope nothing else is broken....it used to work great art from a dodgy play button hahah.
Have been browsing the amazingly helpful posts and web photos etc of the kind and generous Dr Zee. I think I can get most of the rubber parts replaced but can't find a source for the capstan belt apart from Ebay and I am worried I won't get it delivered from either USA or UK where it's listed.
My question is could I get it here in Bangkok or in Australia? Bit of a long shot if there's any members in these locations but who knows right!
Seems the Capstan belt and the original Pinch Roller are difficult to source. I also don't want to spend a fortune in parts if I can help it!
Additionally, thinking of purchasing the Roland Boss BR800 which can record 4 channels simultaneously for this project. I would prefer to not mix to 2 track! Any opinions? I then might do some new recordings as well with the Roland!
Anyway, new here so please go easy with me.
cheers Evom
