tascam 238 filter switch?

I don't have an operations manual for the 238, but I have the service manual and from looking at the schematics it looks like the FILTER switch is the dbx defeat for channel 8. When you slide the TAPE SYNC switch IN (the one next to the little level trimmer) then you have the option to leave the dbx on (FILTER OUT) or to turn the dbx off (FILTER IN).

Not 100% sure about that...anybody else with a 238 know the answer for certain?

ok that makes sense, so i dont even need to think about it!
i'll no where to look if track 8 starts sounding odd though!
thanks!
also, this machine is fantastic!

Yes...the 238 is really neat. I owned one for a short time. It had "issues" so I returned it but I was really impressed with the transport operation. The shuttle function is really slick.

Yeah, it looks like the FILTER switch does nothing unless the TAPE SYNC switch is in the IN position which is nice because it gives an extra safety to accidentally having the dbx defeated on track 8 when not necessary.

Enjoy your 238!
