Tascam 1641 question!! please help =(

I'm using a tascam 1641 interface

But i want to have better pre amps, so my question is: is it possible to have external pre amps, and use it with my tascam 1641 evne though my interface has already built in pre amps?

would it work?

there's 2 ways to add pres to this unit... first there's the adat/spidf connector that can do either 2 spidf or 8 adat... then you could also use the line ins that by-pass the first stage of the pre's... i have one of 1884's infront of me and i dont think the pre's are all that bad... so make sure that they are your problem before throwing a bunch of money at externals...
