Tape for older TEAC R2R machines ..

I see that so many of the older TEAC reel machines, the ones from the 70's for example, use Scotch and similar tape formulations. Would a Quantegy 456 be compatible with such a recorder ?

Most iron oxide tapes do not differ much but stay within a 1dB margin. But when you have a crome oxide or a sterling iron tape, you will hear the difference at once, because the bias set on your machine will be totally off.
