any one have any oppinions? i can get these for 200, and if they are pretty crappy, i might go for a pair of wharfdales. what do you think?

I carried a pair of pbm 6.5's around to every studio I worked at for four or five years during the naughty nineties. I found them to be much better sounding than the ever-present NS10m's.

Here's the bottom line: the Wharfedale Diamonds are powered where the Tannoy's are not. That takes one more variable --- the power amp --- out of the equation, and will mean that after I buy my own pair of the Warfedale's I will be able to enjoy even more consistency in my mixes.

Get the Wharfedales.

A few people on here may laugh but if you want good monitors for a great price, check out the Alesis M1 Active Mk2. compared them to the Tannoy's, Tannoy's were more middle, Alesis where more Bass

£239, and have a listen for your self.

if you got more to spend just heard the Genelec 7050A and they sound great.

well laugh as you will, but my friend has just mixed a record on them and got a good pay day out of it :)....maybe a little bass heavy, but for £240 they kick ass

I am also getting some KRKs worth around £500 as I need an extra pare for when I'm on the move and will not automatically replace them with my home Alesis ones until I listen to make sure they are as good as I am very happy with the Alesis ones.

The Wharfedales are good speakers but sound like Hi Fi Speakers and the Tannoy's are good but no better than the Alesis IMO

I have not heard the KRK RP-5s but they will probably be better than the list you have mentioned...if you are wilingl to spend an extra £40
