First off I would like to thank all those involved with the discussion on why one would need studio monitors instead of just using headphones. I haven't check this site for a few days, so I really enjoyed all the "intellectual" highlights of the question. Thank you Cathy and all respondants of Cathy for making me howl for the past 15 minutes. Anyways...
I'm getting the oppurtuniy to check out the event ps8 monitors. They just came in the mail today and I had the chance A-B them only a little bit. The guy that I'm getting them through, however, origonally suggested I might like the Tannoy Real Actives, saying that he found the Tannoys to be a little flatter than the ps8 which he thought had a slight emphasis in the mid-range (and as I A-B them I think I heard what he talking about). Since I just got them, I still have the oppurtunity to exchange them, but I'm not gonna get a chance to check out the tannoys for myself. Just wondering if anyone else has had the oppurtunity to field check both the monitors and your reactions and comparisons between the two.
Thanks in advance - dave

Yo Antofants: [Antonio of Fant?]

I know the folks are going to jump on me as being a salesperson for Yorkville, but I'm not.

If you get a chance, listen to a pair of Yorkville YSM-1 monitors and then listen to your more expensive monitors and judge which are better.

I'm not going to tell you that the YSM-1's are only 107.50 per speaker.

I'm not going to tell you that they put out clear sound and nice bass.

I'm not going to tell you any more.

Just got YSM1s !!

I just bought a pair of ysm1s a week ago for $90.00 each and they sound great !

You really owe it to your self to listen to these before you buy anything !

I'm going to be getting the YSM1p actives ($320) as soon as they come out (sometime either in May or June I believe).

hey thanks for some of the advice. I know I'm not going to sound too popular right now, but I think I'd like to narrow my search down to these two monitors in particular. I've heard a lot of great things about both of these selections and I don't think that the Events sound bad at all. But I'm kinda interested in knowing if anyone has done a comparison between the two at all. I saw that someone did a review on the tannoy actives and feels like he's seen the light, but I believe he also said that he didn't really do too much A-B stuff with them. I mean, I have an old pair of Alesis (passive) monitor ones and comparitively... well, lets just say I've heard butt checks that sound better than the alesis monitors. So the events don't sound too bad (and they actually match in tone, which I thought was part of the idea with studio monitors but appearently alesis didn't think so... I'm sorry, I'm just a little upset in general with that company right now for more than just the monitors. grrrr). But if someone thinks the tannoys sound better or that the events sound better, I'm very interested in hearing their opinion.
However, I pinky swear that I will listen to the yorkvilles as soon as i get the chance and find a pair close to where I live. I was considering them for a while, but thought that I'd rather go the active path at this point in time.

How soon do you need your monitors? If you don't mind waiting a month or two the Yorksville YSM1ps Actives will be out.

I have a pair of Tannoy PBM8's and they are the best speakers I have ever owned period.

Thsi is the helpful club isn't it? :)

Q: "OK, so should I get the PS-8 or Reveal Actives"
A: "No, you should get the YSM-1's because they are cheap".

Sorry guys, thats NOT an answer. I would have been insulted if I got a reponse like that.

Unfortunately I can't answer either, since I haven't A/B the Reveal Actives with the PS-8's. I'm very happy with my Tannoys though, but these are for some reason extremely cheap in Sweden as compared with other speakers in the same class, so there was never any question of what to get.

Hey, thanks respondants. Just to let ya know, I think I'm going to stick with the events for now. It sounds like either way I can't go wrong, and since I already am listening to the events I'll just keep them and get use to them rather than exchange them and hope I made the right choice (unless anyone can really can convince me otherwise). But I need to get back with these guys probably today so I don't leave them hangin.
And as for the alesis... maybe I'll run some field tests on them and post my result. Like how good they sound under water, or if oiling the squeeky speaker will help improve the sound quality. (Very not happy with alesis company. grrr) - dave
