i'm going to be using the talkback feature of my new board...but it doesn't have a built in mic...

so im looking for a small xlr mic that i can hook up, attach to the desk, have it pretty much be out of sight and out of mind, and be functional enough for speaking...nothing crazy

so im thinking perhaps a small lapel mic?? or something to that effect...

any idears??

i'm looking for some cheap pos for this too, i would like something with momentary switching.
any suggestions?

on his comment, i dont need a switch, mine will be activated by the talkback button on the mixer, and sent to the headphone mix for the live room...

since quality is obviously not an issue...maybe i'd be able to take a computer microphone, cut the wire, and put an xlr connector on the end??? hm

or...an adapter...

this thread is quickly becoming a bad idea.

Hey take a look at mshilarious's new micro mics. He basically built a mic into and xlr connector. I think it'd be a perfect talkback mic. Karma audio also seems to be offering something similar.

How about a little gooseneck mic, that is MADE for this...they are inexpensive, and work well...I have one, that I don't use anymore...it has a XLR built into the end of the gooseneck for plugging into the board. My board has a built in condenser, so I haven't used it in years...it's almost like new...I'm in the house now...if you'd like, I'll go out into the studio in a bit, and check out the specifics (brand, model, etc.), and you can either buy one, or I'll let you have mine for a steal...I don't usually sell ANY mics...I just hoard them!

hehe sure....when you can pop over see what kind it is

It's actually a Radio Shack 33-3011. I don't think they make them anymore...

Here's a pic of one like mine...and it's on Ebay...and they are selling it for LESS than I'd let mine go for...so have it

Any Studio Projects mic will do. Designed for talkback performance

SP1 or equiv.

Call Alan, he can help.

Does your talkback mic input receive phantom power?

I have a Beyer M424 that works wonderfully for such a purpose. It's a dynamic that's actually smaller than the MSH mics, and fits directly into an XLR input.

doesn't seem like it does, according to the block diagram

Sheesh. Since quality doesn't matter, just buy a $5 Nady dynamic and a $10 desk stand. Better yet, buy a five back of the Nady mics and use the rest as blunt objects for working with the drummer who can't keep time. :D

hahaha well im trying to go with something small, that isnt going to take up desk space....the little gooseneck fellas seem like a decent choice
