Talk Box Help

Ok, I just purchased a cheap talk box(Danelectro)... now this thing is SUPPOSED to run in front of your amp Guitar -> Box -> Amp and the box comes with 2 little microphones that pickup the "talkbox effect" from your mouth and run it into the pedal and out ur amp... Im assuming this is so you dont have to use a normal microphone... but those are crap so Im hoping I dont have to use them(I will find out at practice).

My question really is just, first of all.. is the box supposed to create like a bypass effect on my amp where no sound comes out? and it doesnt seem very loud to me.. does it really need to be?

Yes, it's supposed to cut the signal off to your amp. and no, it's not supposed to be very loud; it depends on the PA to get your sound to the audience.
