so chris harris felt he could take my crappy little song and use his talent as an ACTUAL recording artist to make this song shine a bit(as much as he could with what he had to work with)....
those who heard the first version will be awestruck with what this country hillbilly hick was able to do with this candybar pop song......and yes thats him singing back-ups.....and providing all the sonic brilliance.....so without further ado.....i give you ...

acid wash the chriss harris sessions....

Put that on the radio now!

I didn't hear the first time around but this sounds great. Seems all the things I've read about chris harris on the board are true. Good song Jamal! :D

cool man thanks....yeah most of what you heard was true......(although in actuallity really he is a heterosexual...im pretty sure he has kids too)....

Real good-I remember this song--The guitar parts and drumming are excellent-great vocal performances as well. Mix sounds good-I would like to hear more kick and snare drum to really drive the song. I like that breakdown ~2:20 when you really hear the seperation on the guitars-very cool. So what did your collab. entail? Did C Harris add bkrnd vocals and remix it? I'll have to go find the original for comparison. Real catchy song.

BOOOoooooo... BOOooooooo....

Listening as I type. Hrmm.. This has problems...

First of all, you misspelled "turd," but I think your thread title otherwise accurately describes this effort.

Second, ALL of the background vocals are flat...and too busy...and flat.

Third, who fucked up the drums? They sound like they're programmed... and worse than that, the programming was performed by an autistic monkey. ON CRACK.

Fourth, the delays are TOTALLY out of sync, which compounds the problem with the flat vocals. Here's what I hear.

PAINFULLY OUT OF PITCH BG VOX...painfully out of pitch bg vox... pain...out...suck...ouch.

Fifth, if I didn't mention it, the bg vox are flatter than a 2nd grader wearing a sports bra.

Sixth, what's up with the Highs? Sounds like somebody just took the entire mix and ran it through some kind of "tube exciter" plugin...VERY 'Lo Fi.'

Listening to the original now...Whoa...This thing's brilliant.

Overall, I give the song a solid F-, and that's only because I heard the original, which was fine. Maybe Crawdad can help you.

Sounds like a classic example of somebody taking a good thing a totally mucking it up. Better luck with your next turd.

Sincerely,
-Anonymous

The snare sounds too midi for me. The 128 kbps can be heard too well. The "liquid" effect it does is unfortunate. The vocals are good, but they tend to surround the stereo image too much. Maybe more to the center, and move the middle guitar to the left. But I have a flu, so my ears may not work correctly now.

strato-:...thanks man...all i did....was sent files containing 1st.all the music minus any vocals...then a lead vox track..then background vox....THEN chriss cut it all apart re-arranged it a bit.added some more of his back vox(which sound very cool )..then i THINK he had to sprinkle his "magic fairy dust"..at LEAST a coupla times to iron it all out...then when it became apperant he was in a little over his head...i think he sent it to someone else...but wont tell me who??...so im holdin all his royalties till such time as he can provide me with the name of the "man behind the curtain"....

kramer:.....roflmao..!

Wow! Huge improvement over the last version you put up. Drums have very good energy, but the snare seems to get lost during vocals. I don't like the patch/eq.

That panning mayhem thing you have going at 2:10-2:20 rules!
:D

Very good lead vocs and bg's. Good job.

Are You People Deaf???

Okay, I'm reading the comments, and I'm not believing my eyes. It is quite obvious to me now that none of you people actually LISTEN to the songs you critique. You just read part of the thread and go, "Hrm...I'll say THAT!"

This is the worst piece of dog poo I've ever heard.

Please, somebody with some authority around here needs to delete this thread before more innocent listeners are subjected to the musical stylings of "The Only White Jamal In America"

What a load of crap.

Really, it is...just go listen...go listen...go listen...

:D

Terd or Turd?

Who is that anonymous guy that keeps on putting down this song? Man, that totally sucks! I mean, just because somebody doesn't know how to spell Terd? Come on ... :D :p

Okay, I took a listen ... not a terd for sure (a terd is as a turd does, I always say ...)

I actually found myself tapping the old toes to this one. It sounds very radio friendly. The mix sounds good, though the drums may stand to come up just a tad in the mix.

Vocals sounded good over here, but hey, I like flat vocals ... lol ...

Keep on rocking! Good collaboration!

Oh yeah, and that Chris Harris dude was okay on this too!

:)

I really dug the song in its first version and this kicks it up a notch. Jamal has great pop rock potential...I mean I could hear this on the radio right now...and chrisharris is losing his hillbilly credentials really fast, so if his band ever comes my way I probably wouldnt go hear them because he has sold out...Ha Ha

I relistened to ACID WASH 2 on jamals page I think I like that one better... sounds like this one was dragged through multiband so even though there is more definition in the sound but it's not as smooth ... I realy like the song ... that part "not to use the magic up" (not sure if those are right words :) ) gives me goose bumps ... cool ...

FINALLY!!!

FINALLY, SOMEBODY WITH A BACKBONE!!

Hey Fed, I like Jamal's version better too. What's a "multiband?" Seriously...don't laugh, I have no idea what that is.

:D

Thank you for being honest.
:D :D :D

multiband compressor ... eh ... compression applied in certaint freq ranges ... at least as I understand it ... every time I try to use it ... I get clarity but loose smoothness of the sound ... simular to the difference I heard between jamals version and yours... the sound was not the only reason I liked jamals version better .... added vocals just didn't do it for me .... the original build up was better IMHO ...
cheers

Hey "only white Jamal in America"........:D :D :D

.......I Love the lead vocals. They may be just a touch hot at the beginning, but thats just my humble opinion. ..........Oh Chris, stop it!.... so ya got a few flatties in there.... The backgrounds actually sound pretty damn good. Is the guitar recorded through a pod or J-station? ......just curious.... wayyy compressed. .......not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. I love the song, this is great pop. This is the kind of shit that constipates your ears for weaks...... .........so thanks for that! Your well polished turd (that is the correct spelling by the way:D ) will be reappearing every time i whistle, hum, or just try to fart in the solitude of my own home. ........THANKS ALOT!!!!

Great stuff fellas, G :D

hey all you hep cats an kittens....

chuck u:....glad you could tell the diff between the 2 versions...this one chris did...i dunno ...it just kicks soo much ass...and that panning thing....i heard a song by "jimmy eat world"...that employs this a bit diff...but thats where i got the idea....(credit where its do you know?)....lol..thanks

boydrj:....right on...im all about the toes tappin....drums up really?...or are you just makin funna me..;) ...ya ..you would think after listening to chris songs that he sould sing a little...but ..apparently that must be someone else on his recording?!?!?!?...lmao

THE KING!!:.........(stunned silence).....are you kidding me??what a fucking cool thing to say...(ill send the check asap)...wow....and ..do you know anyone in the recording industry..(hint hint)......thanks so much..:D

fed:...ya i know its hard to make some thing sooo gppd already...better...but......somehow....(mostly i think he used his connections fromthe pact he made w/ the devil a few years back)..
never have i been happier to hear that i gave a grown man "goose bumps"...really never wanna hear this in ANY other context....

guernica:.....lmao @constipation.....holy crap that was funny....
guit was rec just outta my amp(line 6 axsys)..straight into the multi track..but as far as how it was effected on chriss' end dunno??..man youll have the best sounding farts for miles.....

Why is this still here?

FYI - I tried to employ some of Fed's suggestions...why, you ask? Because I tend to focus on the negative. :D

So there's a "New" new version of it here:

www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles

The changes are subtle, but for the record, no compression has been added by me, and the mid boost I'd previously incorporated has been smoothed out a bit...

Oh yeah, and I tried to decrease the severity (and the amount of) background vocals.

And maybe the fade's better...

Nobody has mentioned hearing the edits where I hacked out 1/2 of the intro and added an extra chorus, so...they're perfect, right?

I just really think this is a great song, despite my best efforts to muck it all up.

You know you wanna' listen again...you've been humming it all weekend, haven't you...you know you have.

:D
