I need to know if either vegas video or audio will allow me to remove the audio from a mpeg or avi, and just leave me with the silent video. Has anybody had any experience with this?

I haven't used vegas for a while, but as far as I remember you can. I know for sure you can do it in sund Forge

How do you do it in sound forge? Or is it explained in the help files?

In ACID Pro, when you import a video file, it gives you the video track and the audio track - just like a regular old audio track that you would import or record, and you can remove or edit it to your heart's content. I thought Vegas did the same thing - almost positive Vegas Video would do it - I mean, I don't think they would give that functionality to one of their audio programs and leave it out of their video programs, you know? If they did, I would lose a lot of faith in Sonic Foundry... but like I said, I am willing to bet my mom that they allow you to do that in any of their programs that support video.

Certainly in Vegas Video you can delete the existing audio track, or do anything you want to it...

open a AVI file and mute the audio track. As far as I know, that's the only movie format SF supports

You could use Sound Forge.

Just play the MPEG or AVI from its source. Record the audio into Sound Forge.
