take the time to hear "Take The Time"

If you put a "/singles" at the end of your URL it will make finding the song a little easier for people to find.

I thought you have a pretty good song. The vocals sounded real nice - both lead and backing. Good reverb on them. I liked the low rhythm guitar part - had a nice strumming pattern. Nice tone on it too.

I thought the guitar on the lead break was very well played. But I thought it sounded way too "thin". Perhaps some heavier reverb, EQing, or delay would help thicken it up a bit. But retracking might required. The toms at about 2:22 dominate a bit too much for my taste.

Pretty simplistic lyrics.

Overall a rather nice song.

Thanks TripleM for the tip, and thanks for the review. The compliments felt good as this CD has been in the works for a year and 4 months, of course we're not pros so we have to go to work in between :)

I agree with your take on the lead solo--great advice, it's so tough to notice everything when youre mastering your own mixes.

Thats why we got this forum I suppose! S/R

Very nice. Really Catchy, nice light bouncy feel.

I kinda noticed the simplistic lyrics too, especially one about Goliath kinda jumped out at me, but I am not a lyricist, just a lowly violin geek:(

Thumbs up, I hope your CD goes well

dude,

you played that wildcard well.

The mix is pretty decent, nothing to write home about, but you have a nice song so I did not even concentrate on the mix.

I would buy this.

funk on!

Cool tune!!! This was a lot of fun to listen to. The ups and downs and changes all work very well together.

The guitars sound a bit thin, especially around 1:20 (2nd verse). As Cyan said, I didn't care too much 'cause the song was fun to listen to.

:D

Hey, S.Request,

Nice vox on all acounts. I liked how they stood firm in the mix regardless of dynamics. The tune has a good energy to it that maintains.

I felt the drums lacked "body" and the fact that they were so UP in the mix magnified that fact. I think the song would gain a thickness with the gits being hotter and more involved in the rhythm of the song. I agree that the solo was well played but the tone was nill.

Nice tune, great backup vox and dynamics. I loved the mood change on the exit. It showed a degree of poise in arrangment.

Those drums bugged me but, the song overcame. Nice tracking and a great start on the mix.

Peace,
Theron.

Nice tune!

I really liked the vocals and guitar playing.
Cool ending!

What did you record the vocals with?

Great stuff!

Best to you,
Pete

cool tune dude,
It sounds like the drum track is mono everything is in the midle. LIttle wierd considering other things are well spaced
Drums are a weak point IMHO. THere are some timing things that bugged me starting at 0:42. I think it was another guitar and/or keyboadrs that kicked in and were a little off (ahead of the bit).
(I listened some more, and it sounds like something got in the mix that wasn't supposed to be there ??? )

great tune though, and I like the arranging and different things that are happening. That line at the end "only, only way" gave me goosebumps. Awesome. "jam for the Lamb" :)

cheers

nice stereo synth at the begining.
the drums are a bit weak sounding...but nice full vocals.
Not, and 'obvious' song...if you catch my drift....that can be good and bad. but then you mention Jesus' name a bunch of times at the end ..
The timing seems right on the edge...
the vocal break around 2:40 was really nice....and the strings towards the end too.

The advice so far is incredible and I WILL consult this thread again when we make final changes. I pretty much agree with everything I heard :).

mixmkr you thought the drums were a bit weak and theron thought they were UP in the mix, I'd love some more opinions on drum level. One thing I'm going to do is lower the toms a bit and double track and delay those hits to highlight them without being so loud.

Muzeman I recorded vocs through a CAD E-200, added a little compression and VERY little board eq (plus air) going in, then in Cubase VST I added some 32bit verb and I think my delay was like 1/32 time-left pan at -8, and 1/4 T time at right +8. I inserted a Waves Ren. Compressor and smashed it quite a bit from there. Plus lots of eq of course.

Looking forward to more comments if you like, meanwhile I'm going to go review a few tunes so I can return the favors! :)

Kind of an Eagle Eye Cherry guitar with a punk-like chorus. Vocal is good and right out front. It think the drum sound is both of what has been commented on. The highs of the kit are too much, but there is almost no real boomy kick and the toms sound like crap. The snare sounds great. The harmonies are really good and tight.

One pet peave: There is a Christian band named Solomon's Wish that is a nationally signed band, fairly popular, and your name is awful similar.

Decent song, decent mix. 3 1/4 stars (out of 5)

Pete

The intro makes it sound that some 80's cheesy song is expected to blast any minute. Fortunately, that doesn't happen :D . This song is quite catchy, and played just fine. I don't like the snare sound, but the other drums are decent. Vocals work here nicely. I wasn't expecting a christian rocker sound like this :) The outro makes it sound a half-epic-type-song-thingy, which adds to the message, I guess. Good job, but if you can, do something about that snare.

thank you Cranky One,
I agree with ya on that snare but I think I settled for it because it was such a challenge. I spent more time on that thing than anything else :) Any suggestions on more eq or a plugin for it?

Wierd. I just listened again and really, I thought the snare sounded great in this mix

It just shows how subjective music is:D

I should note that I think the snare by itself probably doesn't sound great, but especially with that kind of lo-fi guitar thing going on in the beginning, it just seems to work for me on this song.

Good Work

Pete

cool tune, nice backup vocals..

something about the rhythm guitar didnt sit right for me, but I dont know what it is... the song is pretty cool though, and the backup vocals are very good.. Not crazy about the volume of the high hats either...the drums sound a little dead, but not totally. I liked it.

good listen..

thanks Sam

yah that Hi=hat was the other problem, my snare mic picked up too much of it and I couldnt filter it without really destroying the snare. Oh well, I think I can live with it. Thanks for your input and compliment on backup vocs, thats 99 voices! (3 of us with much layering :))

Peace, S/R

For the Most part, I liked the song... I won't go into a in-depth Critique.... I think the others were pretty good with it..

The backing vocals are great!.... excellent Job!!!

Joe

Thanks VOX!! I'm still waiting for your new stuff :) Anything on the way?

Like the intro a real lot. I think that that whiny synth at right before the vocals come is annoying, but that's me. This is a really 'full' and complete song, impressive. It seems that the mix is really pretty balanced, though the guit in the left sometimes seems a little too far away, and seperated from the rest of the track. Like the way the drums work and how it all builds around 2:30. Hey man, not my style persay, but an accomplished tune for sure, nice work!
