Evening all,
After great thought, it looks like I'm going to be getting an old MBox for my imminent PT rig, until I've got a bit more wonga for a 002R (or a 003 if one came along). They're going for a song if you can find them at the mo' and I'll still be eligible for the free PT7 upgrade, Ignition pack etc;
Anyhoo, I have the choice of a regular Mbox or the factory bundle and I'm just wondering whether it would be worth getting the extra plugs considering I've already got the full T-Racks plugs waiting in the wings (won it at Sounds Expo in London!).
The factory bundle includes;
moogerfooger Analog Delay
JOEMEEK Meequalizer VC-5
JOEMEEK SC-2 Photo Optical Compressor
Cosmonaut Voice
Digidesign Maxim
I know the MEEK comp is good and the delay would probably come in handy, but it's not really a whole extra bunch of stuff for the cash.
My question is (as I have not yet tried the T-Racks - no point in loading it on my crappy current PC - I'm waiting for my nice, clean Super-PC to arrive), would the EQ, Compressor and whole mastering suite provide a useful, everyday set of plugs that I can use over my whole mix as seperate components?
I know that to use it as a home mastering device one should apply it to a whole, final stereo mix (which I may or may not do), but is it not possible to use each part individually within a mix?
If so, the only thing I can see myself missing in the factory bundle would be the analogue delay (cosmonaut voice be damned!), as the T-R should provide good quality alternatives for everything else.
The only thing I could see as being a problem would be if it's particularly CPU-hungry, but as I haven't yet played around with it I was wondering if any of you kind fellows have any experience using it in their daily mixing lives.
Thanking and loving you all,
the tortoise
