T-Racks as seperate plug-ins

Evening all,

After great thought, it looks like I'm going to be getting an old MBox for my imminent PT rig, until I've got a bit more wonga for a 002R (or a 003 if one came along). They're going for a song if you can find them at the mo' and I'll still be eligible for the free PT7 upgrade, Ignition pack etc;

Anyhoo, I have the choice of a regular Mbox or the factory bundle and I'm just wondering whether it would be worth getting the extra plugs considering I've already got the full T-Racks plugs waiting in the wings (won it at Sounds Expo in London!).

The factory bundle includes;
moogerfooger Analog Delay
JOEMEEK Meequalizer VC-5
JOEMEEK SC-2 Photo Optical Compressor
Cosmonaut Voice
Digidesign Maxim

I know the MEEK comp is good and the delay would probably come in handy, but it's not really a whole extra bunch of stuff for the cash.

My question is (as I have not yet tried the T-Racks - no point in loading it on my crappy current PC - I'm waiting for my nice, clean Super-PC to arrive), would the EQ, Compressor and whole mastering suite provide a useful, everyday set of plugs that I can use over my whole mix as seperate components?

I know that to use it as a home mastering device one should apply it to a whole, final stereo mix (which I may or may not do), but is it not possible to use each part individually within a mix?

If so, the only thing I can see myself missing in the factory bundle would be the analogue delay (cosmonaut voice be damned!), as the T-R should provide good quality alternatives for everything else.

The only thing I could see as being a problem would be if it's particularly CPU-hungry, but as I haven't yet played around with it I was wondering if any of you kind fellows have any experience using it in their daily mixing lives.

Thanking and loving you all,

more flexability with the bundle than t-rax.

get the bundle.

Weewy intewesting.

For why?

I had the bundle until someone walked off with my Ilok. Guard your d@mn iLok with your life because there isn't a single company out there that will replce your licenses if it gets stolen or lost.

My personal experience is that I only used the analog delay (which kicks butt) and occasionally out the JoeMeek plugs. In contrast, the T-racks stuff comes out on almost every project. Still, you won't find a collection of plugs anywhere near that quality for the extra $100 that it costs, so I'd go ahead and get it.

OR...

Spend that $100 on the VST wrapper from FXpansion and go nuts with the free VST plugs that are out there. The Digital Fishphones (Blockfish and Floorfish, paricularly) are *fantastic* I haven't conbed the web for a VST EQ because I'm more than satisfied by Digi's ED III, but I've gotten way more use out of the VST wrapper than I did the plugs you get with the mBox factory bundle.

That there's a good bit of advice, the VST-RTAS wrapper would come in most useful. Hadn't thought of that, cheers. :)

Incidentally, what do you mean by the T-Racks stuff 'coming out' on every project? Quality-wise?

Do you know if it causes any problems in the CPU department?

And a quote I just remembered from one of the hip=hop engineers at work:

We were forced to upgrade our Pro Tools TDM rig from OS 9 to OS 10- and in the process lost 90% of our plug ins. Its sucked for this guy in particular becuase he was more than half way through mixing a his own project and (poof!) lost all his plugins and settings.

For cost reasons, I only had the budget to buy T-racks (instead of replace the Waves installation that I found out at this time was pirated.) The hip hop engineer's response?

"Daaaaamn, that T-racks EQ is SMOOTH!!" He was sold instantly and uses the individual plugs (Just the EQ and Compressor) on most of the stuff he does.

Loverly Jubberly.

I too have heard wonderful things about this plug.

How wonderful that I paid not a penny for it! :D

(Also heard great stuff about that Blockfish - I'm getting that wrapper no matter what)

Thanks, friends.
