t.bone mics

Has anyone got any experience of the tbone mics from www.thomann.de ???

especially the SC450 and the SCT700 (which is a tube model and only 179 euros!!!!)

I did find a french site (with some audio examples) who said the mics sounded great (after a bit oftranslating!)

Any one else tried em?

They are basically SE mics rebranded,

There has just been some talk here about the t.bone ribbon mic, everyone that has one is saying complementary things about it. Someone also posted here about the SC100s - do a search.

You may also find this thread interesting.

They aren't SE Mics rebranded. They're FEILO mics, which are sold to both Thomann and SE Electronics. And, I think ADK and Red5 in some cases. The SE SE1A, ADK SC-1 and equivalent SDCs from the other two companies are all the same mic. Go to the FEILO website and see their mics pre-branding.

OneRoom - FEILO is the manufacturer. You can buy them from one or two places, but basically their website is showing what's available off the hook for resellers such as Thomann or SE Electronics. The individual resellers change elements, such as the changing of that SDC to be coloured white in the case of the SE1-A. I think.;)

Yeah, I was hoping for some sort of a price per volume for the mics though - to get an idea of how much the mics cost for these companies that rebrand and distribute them. I think that would definietly be interesting given some of the drastic price differences between say, some Nady and T.bone mics. As you said, they are obviously the same mics, rebranded. So why the price difference? And how much do these puppies really cost to make?

It'd be interesting to know, but I guess unless we put together an OEM we won't find out. Although setting up a HomeRec mic line wouldn't be the worst idea ever to cut out the need for all the Chinese mics except exclusively-designed ones such as Studio Projects.

HAHA, HomeRec mics, I like it. It would be fun to see how much something like that would cost to pull off. And hell, talk about a captive market - the entire community. :D

The boards could fund themselves....

Hmmm ... nothing with pro, people might confuse us for Behringer. Incidentally, does anyone have the link to that Behringer Chair spoof?

How about Studio Sonic Audio Technologies? Can you get any more bland than that?

i've always thought Acceptable Studio Standards would be great for a budget audio line, expecially when it gets abbreviated in magazine reviews.

edit: when it gets big, people will compare them to new mics... and they'll be able to say "hey, man, now that sounds like a.s.s.!"

I am thinking of getting a couple of the t.bone ribbon mics. I just have one question regarding them, my desk only has one phantom power switch that turns it on across all pre's, will this damage these mics?

I've read threads saying that they will and some saying they won't and my college tutor seems to think it will damage them too.

How about this for a *definite* answer - from the manual of its identical twin the Nady RSM2:

3. Never intentionally or accidentally apply any phantom power
from your mixer or a phantom power supply to your RSM-2 as it
can burn up the ribbon. Please always check carefully before
connecting your ribbon mic that there is no phantom power being
provided to the RSM-2. ;)
