I'm sorry in advance if I get a little long winded here, but I have a couple of thoughts I need help with. I'm working off of a 2408mkII and 1224 and have been happy for the most part with the units as I have them clocked with a Lucid genx6. I had been doing most of the tracking and monitoring via mixer until I recently nabbed a sytek (my only external pre, but wow). The problem I now run into is how to monitor the sytek and mixer at the same time without latency issues and without fidelity loss. I've been thinking about dropping the mkII for an mkIII and start monitoring everything through the 424 pci card. Then I had a friend tell me about the Alesis HD24 he's been using and how great it sounds (I haven't had a chance to hear it in action) and started thinking that for about two more bills I could run my stuff into an HD24 and use its outs to monitor the sytek with the board while sending the audio via firewire to the mkII. (I also figure it would be handy for any location gigs I would do) Is the HD24 an audio gem or would the mkIII be a wiser choice or is there a better, easier alternative I'm just not seeing?
