I've just treated myself to brand new MIDIMAN Delta 1010 soundcard. And im planning buying the following configuration of PC this weekend. So if anyone can suggest a reason why I shouldn't go for it PLEASE let me know asap.

PIII at 1Ghz
ASUS Motherboard with INTEL 815EP chipset.
512MB SDRAM (133Mhz)
Full Tower Case (300Watt if poss)

The already rest of the kit ie 3xHD,1 x SCSI CD-RW,
1xVIDEO card,1xSB-LIVE PLATINUM

otherwise I'll let u know the outcome as soon I can put the damned thing together.

I would recommend that unless you are using SCSI hard drives too, don't bother with the SCSI CD-RW and get a EIDE one instead. I've got a Plextor that is flawless.
 
i wouldn't waste my money on SCSI....if you're getting the ASUS CUSL2-C, that's good...they make another version with that chipset and fewer PCI slots.(though this is micro ATX)...either should work great though with the PIII....get at least a 300W power supply.....best is to buy power supply separately.......i got a Sparkle 350w ......get 7.5 ns RAM if you can......two 256MB sticks are better than one 512 i read somewhere with ASUS mainboard, but i'm not sure....also, get a good cooler for your cpu, though of course this isn't such an issue if you're gonna get a PIII and not an Athlon.

the asus is ultra ata 100 ready with drivers on the cd....so get a compatible harddrive....maxtor is good...there are others.

j the combo of 300W Full Tower (£100)+ ASUS CUSL2-C (£115)+ PIII 1Ghz (£187)sounds spot on. As for the theory on having 2 x 256Mb (2x£112)ram chips against 1 x 512Mb (£230) is a little puzzling, as both arrangments should have the same access and transfer time.
But none theless, for flexability purposes I'll go for 2 x 256's. I can then split it between 2 PC's if need be and if one decides to start failing on me for some unlikely reason, I can just rip out the duff one.
Some words evaporated from my first posting and was meant to say. I already have the following from my old PC:-
SCSI CD-RW Yamaha 8424s,
3 x HDs spread as( 1 x apps ,1xsample/soundfont library,
1x AudioDisk(10Gb))
Trident 9660 (Extremely old Graphics Card,but hey! it works)
SBLive Platinum + Front panel Digital IO (Apparently not up to
scratch even with the latest drivers.)

Hopefully Cubse VST can make use of the 512Mb's and do some nifty Hard Disk caching with it. Otherwise its kinda pointless!

The total cost of the upgrade based on web prices has worked out to £626 --ouch I could buy a whole system for that price maybe ill shop around some more :-0

The prices you are quoting seem quite high for British Pounds. They seem very much like they're in US$, rather than Pounds.

For ex. I bought 256Mb of 133 Ram for around $45.00 about a month ago. Even 256Mb of Crucial ram was only going for $60.00.

Are the prices just that high in England, or maybe you're looking at US$??

I got these prices in £ from the site www.kamcomputers.co.uk. These guys are regular at this computer sales fair on sunday, so i thought it was a good place to start. I did a bit of poking around for other sales peeps and found
www.eclipse-computers.com who actually had a price tag a tad bit closer to the prices you qouted. The price after VAT for 256Mb was only £30 which has now lowered my upgrade considerably and in turn has now made my Friday afternoon 100% better for I now have more money to spend on creativity substances such as beer 8-)

Its Friday afternoon, the weekend started lunch time!

FYI
Ive managed to run Delta 1010 with Cubase on a P3-800Mhz with ASUS CUSL board and it runs with no troubles, although I did find the latency was quite noticeable!

Some things go beyond national boundaries. On the other hand, don't you drink yours warm???

WARM BEER!!! U must B JoKing. I normally stick em in the freezer for an hour or so. Tastes best just before freezing point.
