nobody ever answers these questions i ask...but....

So this winter I really plan on upgrading my delta 44 and crappy behringer 802amixer setup.

I want to get something, for the computer - pc, which is along the lines of the motu 828 mkii. Honestly, I'd be happy with that one - but I wanted to see if anyone else had better suggestions, or even worse ones! haha. Price wise, what do people think, how about quality when comparing all the options (digi 001/002, motu stuff, layla..or its called something like that...ha, e-mu, m-audio stuff (that new firewire 1814 i think it's called)...)

so...chat away, PLEASE! haha.

I'll bite, and I'll be brief...when you compare features/performance/price, I think the 828MkII is the clear winner. Can you get something better? I'm sure some will say you can, but I seriously think recording/mixing technique will play a much bigger role than a more expensive or feature rich interface will offer.

ya i would definately consider getting a MOTU if it weren't for the high price. Its not unreasonably priced, but there are too many features for me, value-wise the MOTU is awsome. I'm gonna scale back a bit a go for the echo GINA 3G i think. The echo layla 3G may be close to the MOTU in features but the MOTU would still win, although the echo is about 300 cheaper.

yeah I was also looking at taht echo LAYLA 3G that's coming out...it looks pretty tite, and plenty cheaper...

what do you guys think about that? I guess it's kinda impossible to say right now - but I really havn't tried/heard much about any ECHO stuff..how is the quality of those things comparitively?

The 828mkII has been nominated for Outstanding Technical Achievement for Digital Converter Technology by MixFoundation for 2004.
That's got to say a little about the unit.
I'll admit, it was a nice bit of coin to shell out for it but I'm glad I did.
Unfortunately I have nothing other than standard soundcards to compare it to .... actually, there is no comparison ... it smokes everything else I've had.
The features and sound quality are awesome in my opinion. To me, thats what matters as it's my needs and my ears that need to be pleased. Whether it fits the bill for others, is not my place to judge. I can only attest to my satisfaction with it.
Good luck in your choices ..... and man there sure is a plethora of units to choose from.

how true.. haha. But really that's awesome to har that from you. I've yet to really hear something like that about any units from people in my searching. thanks.

I'm extremely happy with my 828MKII. It does absolutely everything I would ever need it to, and sounds great.

One thing to keep in mind when comparing other products. The 828MKII is a second generation product. I used the original 828 alot on a Mac setup and there were some things that I, and other people, didn't like about the unit. MOTU made some great changes with the MKII model, from making it sound and function better to ergonomic and visual improvements. It's not an all new unit, but they kept the good things about the first 828 and added alot of great improvements.
