Hi folks,
When I check my system resources, they are running from 39%-to 59% percent, depending what I am doing.

When I do Ctl-alt-delete, it says:

Explorer
Arupld32
osa
Echocon
Wkcalrem
rundll
directcd
stimon
systray
vsstat
vshwin32
ocrawr32
ocraware

WTF does this mean? Explorer, Echocon( Darla soundcard) and systray I get. What does the other stuff mean, and how do I get it to NOT load up each time I boot up my puter? It is a multi-purpose machine ( Internet, scanner, digital camera.)

Any advice is welcome. I dont have any money ( pro musician, of course), so anything I can do to tweak this puter is helpful. Thanx, Dave.

rundll shouldn't stay resident. Unless you were changing device settings when you called up the task manager.

Direct cd is for burning cd's like a floppy drive.

Go to start>run>type msconfig>startup

Uncheck all the ones you don't want, most are just crap and take up system resources

You wont stuff anything up don't worry

If after you turn off one of the boxes and something doesn't work. No harm done, just go back and check it again

yeah go to msconfig like Tukkis sugggested. When you are there go to the startup tab and start unchecking the crap you don't need on startup. You should be able to boot up just fine with only explorer and systray (and I'm sure you want your echocon as well). When you are in msconfig, next to each one it'll give the filename and directory where it is located...that'll probably help somewhat on letting you know what each prog is. And I have this strange feeling that you should leave the "run" box checked...it's at the bottom of the list.

Alright!!!!! Thanks guys, I am now running at 84%. USA!!! USA!!!
