Hi there,

in my constant quest to optimize my system to work fine for audio-recording, I keep running into a RUBBER-WALL :) :D

It turns out that my USB controller and my internal (VIA AC97 soundcard) share the same IQR

I learnt that this is about the worst thing and should be avoided by changing the IRQ by physically putting the cards into other slots

HOWEVER ... both the USB controller and the soundcard are INTEGRATED, thus no way to shuffle them around.

Anybody any idea on how to change shared IRQs on integrated components?

i guess meanwhile when I use my comp as DAW I will disable the USB controller in the BIOS, but I hope that there is a more elegant solution, as I would "loose" my cablemodem

any pointers?

thx
Alfred

ahhh ... btw ... a GREAT link for Audio-system troubleshooting: www.pcmus.com !!!!!

uh...that wont matter unless you use your onboard sound card...so if you do use your onboard sound card...why are you using it?

Just disable the onboard sound card in the BIOS.

... because this is currently the ONLY sound-card i have!!!!

but I found a good solution, I disabled the integrated modem (which i dont use) ... and the USB controller took this IRQ (10)...

and now the VIA-soundcard (the integrated one) is no longer sharing the IRQ !!!!!

I already managed to shave off some 4500 samples from my ASIO buffer length for a buffer of 1024 samples!!!!!!!

how's that!!!!?????

thx folks

Alfred <=== one happy camper :D

ps: I will get a "real" soundinterface pretty soon ;)

I ain't no expert...

...but I have always been told to disable onboard sound cards for serious audio.

again, my onboard soundcard is the ONLY one i have currently ... if I disable it, I wont get serious audio, hell, I wont even get non-serious audio :-)

of course - as soon as i have a good pci card, I will disable it

thx alfred

Smart! That was a good solution. We just FINALLY got our DAW working with our Delta 1010, but we started out with a Soundmax integrated sound card and it was NOT terrible. It was an excellent intermediate step to find out if we were really gonna want to do this enough to make big investments to come.
