System Midi on Mac

Hi all,

I have a question. I have experience with MIDI/Audio recording software on a PC (Cubase), and I used to play Midi through the Windows internal Midi emulator. Now, I'm helping a friend to install software on a Mac (Powerbook G4, OSX 10.4) but I don't see any internal system Midi device. I assume that Macs do have an internal Midi emulator (or on board synth?), so what are we doing wrong??

Any help appreciated!

Best wishes,
Bas

He,

me again. Just downloaded 'simplesynth' and that seems to do the trick.
I still wonder if this was nessecary?

Best wishes,
Bas

Well, maybe I'm using the wrong word here, but in Windows you can play MIDI tracks from Cubase even if you do not have a soundcard with synth or any other MIDI device connected. I assume what happens is that it's a completely software based MIDI > AUDIO converter, like virtual Soundcanvas, that I used to use on my older PC.

In short: I want to play MIDI tracks from a sequencer but we do not have a MIDI device connected.

Cheers,
Bas

Hi Tim,
Yes, that's what I thought. But I can't select 'quicktime' as a MIDI output device in the sequencer software. I see 'softsynth' now, but that's the only one.

Best wishes,
Bas
