whats a good synth and/o sampler rto buy for no more than 1000?

what kind of music are you interested in? There are plenty good ones...
like korg ms2000(r)
roland jp-8080
roland jp-8000
roland xp-30
nord micro modular

and i'm sure plenty more, those just come to mind first

*edit* samplers are however not my thing so yeah, hopefully someone who knows about them will comment =p

Hey Dude!
You can buy used Tritons for about $1100-1300 on Ebay.

yeah, what he said ^. You can buy alot of good stuff for cheap on ebay =), Look there.

i am also looking for a decent keyboard in the same price range
i notice a lot of hype around the triton and i was wandering how good exactly is it , i mean what can it do and could it help me if im into NIN, Pantera,techno/industrial music, i am also learning how to play piano but i need basically to be able to do anything with my keyboard as in creating sounds and manipulating them any way my dreams desire. thanx

NIN uses Nords, I know this for a fact and they use a few vintage synths, but I believe Trent owns everything hehehe. I'd up your budget to 500-600 and get a new or used(Depending where your shopping)Korg MS2000. It is a analog modeling synth much like the Nord Lead, except not as good(obviously). The Korg ms2000 has some powerful sounds, i'd check it out.

I second a Korg MS 2000. It kicks more ass than I ever thought possible. You can easily afford a new one for under a grand more like $6 or 700. I like it more than the micronord I played and it includes a vocoder.

I love my micro mod...and it too has a built in vocoder...well if you decide to program a vocoder patch. Of course clavia announced this week that they will not be updating the OS so if you plan on using it for years it might not be compatible with the next version of Windows or Mac. Of course if you already have close to 4000 patches it doesn't really mean you will run out of sounds soon.

That said I think something other than the micro mod would be a better "only" synth. The learning curve on it is a little higher than most, and it is very limited in its polyphony.

I don't own the Korg. I have played around with it and it does seem to be the best bang for the buck in the VA domain.

A sampler would be my first suggestion for an only synth...
and then a VA.
Try ebay and you might be able to get both within your budget.

ive looked into getting a MS2000 but there just isn't enough keys on it, because i am also learning piano and i really need the 88 full size weighted keys.
but the MS2000 does interest me and i will get one one day but can anyone recommend a cheap keyboard with midi, full size 88 weighted keys and with decent piano sounds.

A Yamaha S80 can be bought for slightly more than $1000 now that the S90 is out.
