Synchronizing SONAR 2.0 with a Roland VSR-880

Hi,

I'm trying to synch my Roland VSR-880 to SONAR 2.0 running on my PC. I've tried working through the help provided both by SONAR & the Roland manual but can't seem to get it to work. I'm pretty sure I have it connected up correctly via my audiophile 2496 (midi out to midi in & midi in to midi out so that it can talk both ways). I'm trying to get the Roland to work as the master.

Does anyone have any hints on how to go about doing this (I have to admit to being somewhat of a novice when it comes to midi so I'm getting a bit lost when I have to stray off the step by step help).

Cheers in advance for any help!!

Cheers for that ... there seems to be a lot of information there.

Do the digital connections to and from the VSR880 & my computer have to be in place as well as the midi connections for the synchronization to work? (obviously I know that they need to be made when tranferring the data to a fro but I'm trying to get the synch to work before buying the coax cables ... I had considered buying a single cable because I only want to copy down onto the computer).

Cheers,

Stuart

The s/pdif only helps sync if your audio interface can be set to use the external s/pdif audio clock, then it is an essential part of the sync. Trigger and freewheel will work without it to a point - it won't actually be in time - but it will prove the midi automation part of the setup.

Creative digital inputs re-sample to the cards own clock, and therefore will not provide audio sync in time with your recorder.
