I've got my dr 770 synched to my BR 1600 via the midi out on the 1600 to the midi in on the 770. The problem I am having is that as soon as I push play on the br1600, the 770 starts playing the pattern beat as well. I've programmed a song with 8 measures of silence for the intro, followed by 8 measures of a verse drum beat, but it's like the 1600 just wants to pull the pattern beat and nothing else.

Do I need a midi cable going from the output of my drum machine to the BR 1600 instead of the quarter inch jack output of the 770 to the 1600? I've read the manual for the 1600, and I cant find anything other than delaying the synch time, which doesn't seem like something that would fix my problem.

Any advice would be most helpful, and thanks in advance

You may have to program your drums as a 'song' on the 770 instead of a 'pattern'

Just a guess though; I have the DR-660 and I'ved never tried to "delay" the sync.

what im doing

yeah, i did program the drums as a song, still nothing. ah well, I'll just get that other midi cable and see if that fixes the problem.

Check to make sure you don't have the 'arrangement' button lit on the BR, and that you don't have patterns entered into that arrangement on the BR. Also, you can turn off the drum channel on the BR so that it is NOT 'triggering' drum sounds (either its OWN internal drums OR the DR's drums). Since you already have the drum 'song' recorded in the DR, the BR should NOT be sending or receiving drum signals. All you want, is for the BR to PLAY the DR when it starts, and assuming the song is already arranged in the DR, it should just play it. Run the audio outputs from the DR to the BR and record it. I think what is happening is the BR is playing the pattern. I can't remember the menu's on the BR, but I think to turn off the drum channel, you go to the MIDI tab, then turn off the drum channel. I have the DR670, but I assume it is similar to the 770.

Not sure I explained this very well....hope it helps.

huge help

thats a huge help man, I'm gonna run down to my garage right now and see if that works, thanks man!!

Edit: It worked!!!! I had to go into the midi option and change the drum channel to off, and now everything's working. thanks again for the advice dude

Hey, Radiohead0709. I'm curious why you're synching a drum machine to the br and not using the br's drum patterns. Is it easier? The br's drum program just doesn't come easily to me.

Dr770

After using the DR770 for a few years, its just easier for me to use. I tried using the BR's functions, but it's set up to be a recording unit and not really a drum machine ya know. I guess it just comes down to me feeling more comfortable using what I know works, instead of trying to do the exact same thing on a different machine.
