I bought Cakewalk Home Studio 9 last year and after having spent sufficient time to learn how to use it fairly proficiently, my next step is to learn how to synch it to my Roland VS880.

I've had the Roland VS880 for three years but have never synched it to anything and haven't a clue where to start. If you could refer me to anything, be it a website or even a page in the owners manual I may have overlooked, I'd be grateful.

Or you could even email me instructions, or post to the board. Any help would be much appreciated.

OK - i went to Roland's site and couln't find the VS880 but i assume it sends MTC. What you need to do is link the VS midi out with a midi cable to your puter midi port in.

In the VS midi options select generate MTC and in cakewalk go to options/project and select SMPTE/MTC as the sync source.

Now hit play on cakewalk and hit play on the VS and they should sync (make sure they are both set at the same framerate etc)
You can do it the otherway round and have the VS as the master and cake will follow/chase it.

cheers
John
