I have a person sending me recorded audio tracks that he recorded on his computer with a click track but doesn't know the bpm. Is there any automatic feature within software {Logic Audio specifically} to sync the midi click track to the audio track. The audio tracks seem to have a good solid tempo and I have been trying to find it manually, but it always seems to drift out of sync. Im wanting to add a softsynth drum track with the EXS24 and get it synced up with the click track but this is driving me nuts trying to do it manually.

I Don't know what a click track is, but i'm going to take a shot at this anyways.

Sample the audio track to a sampler, and then rerecord the track on to your computer program. Then you should be able to use midi to lock up to the tempo the computer just created for the song. You might not know exactly what that person recorded it at, but it will be locked.

P.S. Hope you have a sampler.

P.S. Hope that works!

Don't know about Logic Audio but Acid Pro has a great feature to determine the tempo of any audio file. They call it "The Beatmapper". You show it where the first beat is, approximately. You show it where the end of the measure is approximately and then you loop the measure and drag two sizing markers to fine tune the measure boundaries at greater magnification until it's right where you want it- which will be obvious because it loops seamlessly on the beat. The tempo readout is given down to +/- 0.001 beat. You can get the demo for free at:

The trouble you may be experiencing is that even though it was recorded to a MIDI click track, it may drift in and out of sync on a measure to measure basis. Nothing will fix that but rerecording it!

I don't use Logic, but Sonar/HS2002 have the ability to analyse audio files and detect beat "transients" and base the MIDI clock/tempo off of that.

Great advice guys...I had no idea..I'll give it a go. Based on drstawl's suggestion I guess I could take a bar and loop it and see if I can find it that way...or I might try the software you suggested. Thanks Guys !!!

Most DAWs allow you to select a region of audio and define that as a certain number of measures. You might be able to do that with the entire song or do it in parts. Just trying to set the tempo probably wont work because your DAW may interpret the tempo as some odd number like 121.36 BPM.

Assuming the click is 1/4 notes then you can select 16 of the beats in your DAW and tell it to Fit Tempo to Selection or something like that and define it as 4 measures. Try it in larger pieces until you find a resolution that works well enough.

There are also Beat to Midi convertors like were mentioned before. Usually you define a threshold and when the audio is louder than that threshold it will trigger a midi note. That can be complicated when pulling timing from a complete drum track but it should be pretty easy off of a click track.
