Sync drift??

I have posted this in the midi forum as well

I wonder if there are any experts out there who could shed a little light on us?

Tascam TRS-8 tape deck. Nice!
M Audio audiophile card seems OK

The box in question is a Philip Rees TS1. We striped a tape (track 8) on the eight track tape deck. Then we connected the box to cubase and programed some drums. After some time it was possible to set the tape deck in motion and the drums would play from cubase!!!!! Great!!

Next we recorded some guitar onto track one of the TRS8, feeding the drum track from cubase to the headphones of the guitar player.

On playback the two things are out of sync!!!!!
The drums and guitar are together at the start then they drift apart.

Impossible I would have thought.......

Cubase detects the start of the song everytime I rewind the tape and push play. Cubase starts OK and then drifts.

How does cubase "decide" to go off on its own when there must be a valid signal to the computer?

tearing my hair out........

Somebody must have had this problem before??

Cubase probably just gets triggered at a certain timecode and freewheels after that. Your tape is probably drifting.
