I'm gonna buy a computer in a few weeks. I already have Cubase Sx and the Delta 44 soundcard.

On the box of Sx it recommends a Pentium III. I was a little suprised of that because since Sx is new, I was expecting it to work better with a P IV. But is there really any difference???

I am a little confused on this matter. I would like to get a pentium IV at 2.0 because is should be faster then a P III at 1.13. Plus with a P IV, I can use DDR ram.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Thanks.

I'm sure they mean a pentium 3 or better. LOTS of folks are running SX on P4s and loving it. You'll get more channels at the same time and more effects from a 2 ghz p4 than you would from a p3 that you could buy now.

Yep, they were just listing the "average" recommended system. Go with the P4. Even without the faster processor speed, the DDR Ram is worth it alone. I'm running a 1.9 ghz P4 and the system rocks.

One thing you may want to check on (I'd go to cubase.net for it) is that I remember reading that some people with a 2.2 or higher P4 was that there was trouble with some of the floating math and the processor would get these usage spikes that would max out the processor and cause trouble. I think that they determined it was a program code problem and they fixed it with one of the upgrades, but I am not 100% positive they fixed it. Maybe others here can comment on that as well. But otherwise the P4 is the way to go. Have fun with the new 'puter :)

I have it running on a PIII and it works fine. However, if you want to go overboard with lots of effects and tracks, get the IV.

More power = better
:D ;) :p
