SX projects in Cubase 5

Hi All

I just searched the forums but could not find anything.

Sorry if this question has been asked a 1000 times

I am up grading from SX to cubase 5 in a couple of months and i am worried that my SX projects will not open up in Cubase 5.

Can you let me know if this is the case?

Cubase 5 will open any previous versions project files. SX1-Cubase 4.5. Cubase LE. Nuendo 1-3 I believe as well.

I have opened dozens of SX3 projects with 5. Huge step up IMHO, and very worth the upgrade price.

What he said. I did the same thing about 2 or 3 months ago--and I'm glad I did!

Just wanted to add that the Cubase 5 license allows you to run all previous versions as well.....

NL5... wont he have problems with FX??? seems to me i read somewhere that all the vst's had to be stripped away and only import the audio... no??

Possibly a few. DX plugins are no longer supported, but most have VST's available. Also, you can always still open it in SX3 - as I said, Steinberg changed it's license policy so that the 5 license allows you to run all previous versions.

The big 3 for me were Variaudio, way more flexible routing options, and dragging plugins. Tons of small changes too. Variaudio is damn near worth the upgrade by itself.

I've been using sx3 for a while but I just cant stand the dongle thing. It really sucks when your out to record at a gig only to realize your dongle is sitting in your PC's usb port an hour away!!! I swear it slows down the system as well.. Or maybe its just sx3 is slow. Is cb5 better on resources?

I've been using reaper on my location gigs. I'd love to get cubase 5 but they are so frigging paranoid with this dongle crap its killing me. I see cb5 for like 289 free shipping on eBay. I might check it out if I work extra hard this week.
