Switching 4 track cassettes between machines

Hi All,

My apologies if this issue has already been discussed. My Yamaha MT1X machine has died on me, and I'm wondering if it's possible to play the cassettes I recorded on it on another machine. If this is possible, which machines would work, or what should I look for in another machine.

You'll have to check the specs on your machine and see what speed the tape runs at.
Then check the tape speeds of other makes.If the speeds are the same,then you should have no problems.

Some machines also have different head configurations.
Like say,..Tascam and Fostex. I cannot play a tape in a Tascam that was recorded
on a Fostex, because their head configurations are different.
Also,..like j.harv said,..some machines record at different speeds.
A Tascam 424 mkII records in high speed, and normal speed...whereas a Tascam 488 mk II,
records only high speed.
