Maybe, but the Sweetwater guys are really good. If they have what I want, I typically order from them.
 
Yeah +1 for sweetwater. their customer service is 2nd to NONE.
 
I don't doubt that. Hell, I've bought stuff from them, but I would think that most here already know about the big on-line retailers. Maybe the guy just thought he was being helpful. LOL!

Sweetwater, always a phone call after the sale, how are you doing, any questions, what do you need? Really a great place and I would say for people new to recording, even if they are higher, better to start there as they will guide you through the process and help you make a decision. Amazon is a point and buy place. Good if you know what you want.

GC, well, they are GC.
 
Another +1. Customer service is top notch and prices are usually competitive.

I'm going both days, have a room reserved. I'm about 2 1/2 hour drive away.

Determinately go. They have a bunch of giveaways. last year they had sm 58's for $58 and 57's for $57.

Yup, you'll find better deals elsewhere, but the post sales service is not as good as Sweetwater. I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks for that. And sometimes you can get a deal from them you won't get anywhere else.

I bought a UAD Apollo with a street price of about $1800. They actually asked me not to share the price, but it was wayyyy lower. I don't think they made any money on that sale. :D (yeah, I'm bragging a little. :D)

You just gotta talk to a rep directly. They will beat any advertized price just like GC/MF, and throw in free shit too. Been there, done that many times. I am not sure I have ever purchased anything from them without the cables to connect it included for free. From toslink to mic cables and mic clips and boom stands at cost.

Nothing ever beats a 'Stupid Deal Of The Day' from MF if you happen to catch something up when you need it tho...

I'll agree that their customer service is better. I also think their salesmen have better product knowledge than the others. But on big ticket items I've already done a lot of research so price is what I'm concerned with. They all have free delivery and no taxes. But just like anything else: to each his own. :D
