sweetenah

Hi, I'm finally upgrading this week from my old, decrepit Tascam 414 to a BR8. I have an audio technica condenser, an SM57, and a Behringer composer for compression. My question, what is the best sweetenah out there to add some nice analog-ish harmonic qualities and warmth ??

-- BBE sonic maximizers: all they're cracked up to be ?
-- DBX Project 1 ?
-- Tube mic preamps ? Any good cheap ones, what's the feeling on noize ??

any other suggestions ?

Thanks,

Out of the three option you've laid out here the tube mic pre is probably gonna get you closer to what your looking for. The Art tube MP is the best "bang for the buck" but not anywhere near the best.

Another possibility is maybe a nice tube compressor. One worth it's salt would probably cost you about as much as your BR-8 so that's probably not an option.

The BBE stuff I would stay away from (I use one but only sparingly for mixdown to cassette)

I agree James. I've got my eye on the DBX386 Tube mic pre. It's got an S/PDIF output. It looks niceand I'm trying to get a little more info on it.
