Slack..I think you hit it on the head...or was it the tits...with whipped cream? whatever it may be...

I think one of my chief complaints about a lot of two channel recording is the lack of separation and definition of different parts/instruments in certain recorded material. I would guess that surround sound would improve on that...

As far as the conventional recording being engineered as if the peformers were in front of you, room reflections and all (as in Carnegie Hall), well thats just a physical limitation of it is done...it doesn't mean its correct.

I've only listened to a Fleetwood Mac concert on dvd 6.1 I thought it sounded pretty cool.
 
someone told me that fora short time records were made with 4 channels but then they went back to stereo. i also talked to a guy who thinks stereo won't be standard for much longer. is this realistic?
