What would you guys recommend? This band is all about the reverb :) I need a thin neck and a bigsby style tremelo. Other than that what style of guitar? Hollow body or solid? What kind of pickups do I need? This is going to have alot to do with personal taste, I'm guessing, so give me your opinions.

A Fender Jazzmaster through a Fender reverb. You don't get more surf than that. Some guys would use a strat a'la Dick Dale, but the Jazzmaster is really the way to go.

Strats, Jazzmasters and Jaguars will all give you the Surf sound. But for uniqueness and ultimate COOL you need a Gretsch Duo Jet or Silver Jet......they are solid body, have Dynosonic/DeArmond pickups in the neck and bridge and a bigsby. Way Cool.........

... and way cool on a serious budget?

You need a (drum roll please) ...

Watkins Rapier, through a Binson Echorec!

Lots of cash?
Seafoam Green 1962 Jaguar and a white Bandmaster/Reverb unit.

Oh yeah!

I have a '69 Tiesco Del Ray V-2...

with 2 single coils that will probably get you there....nice, cheesy " don't touch that tremolo if you ever want to stay in tune again!" bridge...

Not to mention the plywood body...but it was well worth the money and the time to restore it...

Strat, Bandmaster, Fender Reverb and Fender Echo Unit. Exact setup I had when I was a teenager in the 60's. (sigh) There's nothing like the sound of the old Fender reverb units. In fact, I still have a few vinyls of the Surfaris, Chantays, Ventures. Gees, those were the days.

fender jag or jazz master..look into the jap reissues if on a budget
the real key is fender reverb either outboard unit or tube amp
can fake it with pedals but just not the same

I might take some heat for this, but get a G&L ASAT Hollow with a bigsby. They make em very nice, and all by hand of course. The true Fender sound. As for the amp, see above posts.

hey mast- your right the only true fenders being made these days are G&L's.
