But I'm gonna ask it again :-D... ok I want to record a band all at once. I have access to mics, cables, and a Mackie cfx16 mixer. What all do I need to record what's coming out of the mixer? I really would rather not use a computer.

You need to count up the number of mics you have, the number of tracks you can record with simultaneously, and the number of channels on your mixer and figure out what will go to what.

You will probably not want to get too elaborate with the drums and limit them to no more than 8 channels on the mixer so you have room for bass, guitar and vocals. Depends on the number of guitarists you have.

Also, you need to define what you are recording TO/WITH. Hard disk recorder? Analog RTR? Cassette portastudio? Digital portastudio? Which one?

Once you know this you can draft out a plan for what needs to be where.

Fostex, and others, make good 16-track digital recorders. They can be used to record your mixer output. Is that what you are looking for?
