Nice mix. No nits from me. Made me want to grab mama and take her outside on a blanket....

And leave her there so I could play with the dog! :D

Just kidding...

cool song, nice easy going feel to it.

one thing i notice early is the drums. they're a little monotonous. perhaps add a little dynamics with some tension and release. let the drums go to a ride and regular snare maybe, or a rattle hat during the choruses. this would add some interest. also the drums are a little too "upfront" for my tastes. adding some "room" type reverb might help set them back in the mix some. the levels seem to be o.k., it's just that they're a little stark.

is that a real bass or a synth bass? a little more attack on the notes might help the clarity. if it's real maybe play with a pick. if it's a synth, maybe adjust the attack or switch to a more picked sound.

of course these are my opinion. you may not agree.

still a cool song though...

later...

It's a nice mellow ballad-a cool song from Yesterday's memories. It seems pretty bass heavy and I'd like to hear the keyboard in the background come up in the mix-it swells up at the ending-it kind of sounds to be in the same register as the guitar. Just my opinions-good tune though.

A really nice song Gerry.
The bass has some Ricki growl.
Is it the left hand of the keyboard that's overfilling the low mids?
The guitar is very restrained so it couldn't be that.
The solo is very tasteful.
Until you can get a real drummer onto this all I can suggest is that you address the excess mid/low and it'll be sweet.
Oh, the right hand keyboard stuff works well - esp in the end bars.
Nice work.
I look forwrad to hearing this again.

Hey ido,

Your mixes always sound great! Bass sounds really clear and "phat". All the levels sound even to me. Your stuff always has a nice kind of classic vibe to it.

You do a nice job singing as well. Your notes hold very well. Enjoyed the song.

Very nice melody Ido!
Bass is a little bit too dominant though, guitars are mixed quite back in the mix. Piano could maybe work better if it was acoustic. These are just opinions though...
Solo is nice and so's the voice.

Well done!
Cheers
Joe

I thought this was a really cool laid back number. Performance is on the money. I thought it may be lacking a little high end, but maybe it is in the bass, nothing that detracts from the overall quality. Well done.

Hey Ido,

Yup, bass comes across a little strong. I think the vocals need more compression to help even them out. I like the dynamics and it adds more emotions, but some phrases are weaker than others. Hard to quantify what I'm trying to say.

You always write great songs.
Cheers,

Thanks Rokket, Chili, Anfontan, Ray, e-man, Riffmaster, jpw23, joeym, ksounds...

is that a real bass or a synth bass?
Rickenbacker bass....

It seems pretty bass heavy
I'll look into taking the bass level down a bit.

Is it the left hand of the keyboard that's overfilling the low mids?
Probably - I'll try and take some low mids off the keyboard and that might bring up the guitar also. Same problem I had before...

I think the vocals need more compression
No compression on the mixdown at all. Still looking for a good MBC plugin or a maybe some way to use my analog compressor.

Thanks again!

What's interesting is that the entire mix has a 70s sound to it... except those drums. They're too hi-fi to fit- the bass is nice and growly (I love the sound of a Rik), your vocals are spot on with that "classic" vibe, guitar is just dirty enough to be nice, piano ends up serving as a pad... The drums just end up sticking out.

You might try throwing some EQ in there to drag them back in time a few years- then they could match the rest of the tune.

FANTASTIC tune, by the way. :-) Congrats.

Another nice melody on this one. Nice goin'. It seems as though you let loose a little more on the vocals, which I like. There are some powerful notes that you hold for a bit longer than usual and it really works. Less subdued than some of your others - again, a good thing.

Ido, I like the song. The recording seems a little hot. It there a clip or two there. Should be easy to detect with Sonar. Do any of the wave forms reach the edge of the clips pane in the track view? Maybe it's just the compression you are using on the back end. V-64? Something is a little two hot to my old ears.

Good start here. Should be easy to tame. Try "Soften up and loud down"

The drums just end up sticking out.
I took the drums down a notch which seems to help.

Thanks - it's a bit of a different edge to the vocals

There's no clipping on the individual tracks and none on the master or the mixdown. It must be a Soundclick MP3 conversion issue as the .wav file sounds okay...

I remixed this on my Sonar 6 LE version which has a few different plugins from Sonar 7.
- added compressor to the vocal track
- reverb on the overall master
- took the bass level down a notch or two
- mid/low cut on the piano
- adjusted levels/panning on the guitars/piano
- piano seems to sit nicely "under" the mix now (pad?)

Let me know how the mix is now.....

Ido,
pretty schmick!
Just a little more definition OR volume in the bass guitar maybe???
You've definitely tamed the overflow of low mids etc. MUCH clearer and cleaner. Your voice and everything else has the space needed now.
Pretty schmick indeed. You do what you do so well!

Sounds pretty good man...no real items seem to pop out to me...

Still sounds great to me. You have a great voice that conforms so well to each of your different songs. I hear a little erin neville coming through here, who I just happen to like very much.

Sounds good Gerry. I find the rhythm guitar to be a little monotonous at times. Maybe some pads in the back would make the accomp. more interesting. I love the picture.:D Is it from Endless Love?
