OK, I am looking to set up home recording and am willing to spend around 500$. Can someone please help with the mic. Aswell I want to get a preamp that connects to my usb and is easy to use. I was looking at the tascam us-122, has anyone had expeience with it. Right now I am lost and would greatly appreciate help on what I have to buy and where to do so. Thanks

what are you trying to accomplish with your setup? what kind of music/instruments will you be recording?

I've had pretty good experiences with M-Audio stuff.
I havn't used this exact model, but Im sure you can read the reviews on both musiciansfriend.com and harmonycentral.com and get a good idea of it's worth.

As far as a mic is concerned - I would do an advanced search of the mic forum for "hip hop". That question is asked around here alot.

here's an example:

Do you already have software?
Do you play any instuments?
Are you the vocalist - or are you going to be recording various artists?

The more info we have, the more we can help you.
There is NO right answer to "what is the best mic/preamp/cable/reverb/software"....only opinions. Our opinions will better suit your questions if we have all the information.

Good luck,
Todd
