Hey Rodent,

well hes one lucky lad to have an uncle like you i tell yah! Though, that being said its a bit tough to buy someone stuff you don't know a whole lot about.

Firstly though, before you ask anymore questions, I recommend you read the following guide.

www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

I promise this guide will help you understand what you will be looking at gear-wise, and understand music on a more technical level.

Also, with purchasing gear, i'd recommend places such as the following for much better prices and quality service:

www.zzound.com
www.sweetwater.com
www.musiciansfriend.com

Good luck!

What kind of uncle writes like a 12-year old? :D

UMm...A 12 year old Uncle!!!

For 9G you can get a Pretty Top notch home studio (I have only spent about $1000 on mine) but all lot of what you will probably buy will not be Equipment as all the recording equipment in the world won"t make you sound good if the the Room you are recording in isn"t treated properly, so make sure a certain ammount of money is spent on Sound Proofing and Bass Traps and other sound Treatments.....

You will Probbaly need a Big Interface with lots of inputs (24??) and a fast PC with good software (Pro tools??) and a Lot of Mics (Which can suck up your Cash in a Hurry) and some Good Monitors (Speakers) Maybe some outboard equipment like a Compressor and reverb unit ect or you might be able to get away with a Bunch of Plugins....

You might also want a couple channels of "Golden" preamps especially for Vocal tracking which can also cost quite a few bucks.......

Maybe you should ask your newphew what he want in his studio as he probably has a fair Idea of what he needs.....

Good Luck
