Some months I make no money (depending on what else is taking my time from grinding...like making more product or finishing albums/cds/websites what not)
Some months I can grind and clear anywhere from $300 to $1200 a month on a couple of solid deals. I will be doing more of this after the compilation and my album is done.
My general rule is the money I make from selling beats and music goes right back into the studio. For everything I want to get I'll need at least $5000 but I'm shooting for $10000. This also includes a Whisper Room, a 100 CD duplicator, and shrink wrap machine if I can cop that too. Between me and the fiance, we pull in about $50k a year without any degrees yet....once we have our school shit done and can get into real careers we intend to at least pull in 80k together which would free up a lot of money for us. Once bills are all paid, we would normally wind up with about $800 a month....but we're saving that for the wedding and honeymoon in Vegas.
As for how much I sell my beats for, I sell most of them for $100 a piece tracked out with exclusive rights. Some of the newer ones I let go for $300 right now. If I do custom work, that's a whole different ballgame. But with that said, a lot of work that I do get is custom since I have so many beats on my soundclick page. It's easier for somebody to find a beat that they like and want something that emulates it but steps it up a notch or two so it's fine tailored to the artist like a new suit.
I kind of look at it this way. Right now it's all about getting my name out there as a quality beatmaker. Once I start making constant sale, then I can do whatever I want (within reason) and still have folks coming.
