The not fountain head
I've been thinking more and more about what makes J Dilla's and some of Kanye's stuff sound so appealing... And I think I've caught on... It seems to me that Dilla especially relied heavily on the sample's drums, or at least their placement..
When I used to chop a sample and trigger, it hardly ever worked out so that I would want to trigger the slices containing the original drums.. I would normally go for the solo harmony stuff..
Anyway, I working much harder now on digging into some vinyl for some Dilla and Kanye like samples to give me some practice....
The thing that really blows my mind is how subtle Dilla's kicks are hugely effective... Thoughts?
