I'm an engineer not an english major dammit. :D
Errrr.... I just wanted to say that it really took way too much time. And way in capitals because it took WAAAAAAAAAY too much time. But that being said, I think it should be 'way' instead of 'much' anywho. But what does I know. I speaks dutch all the time. :D

I think it's sometimes true and sometimes people take it to ridiculous extremes. For instance, in music, I can clearly see that "Revolution #9" by the Beatles has some backwards words on it, but saying that "Another one bites the dust" backwards is "Start to smoke marihuana", I think it's ridiculous IMHO

i sorta remember that back in the 70s and early 80s EVIL DEVIL WORSHIPPING bands like Iron Maiden and AC/DC were putting backward masking in their songs...

This is too funny! I've never heard a single backwards message in an Iron Maiden song. (I hate AC/DC so don't care 'bout them...). To call them "evil devil worshippers" is hilarious! Not even close, yo. You want evil devil-worshipping metal? Check out DEICIDE-- they're the real deal. A bunch of clowns with marginal songs, but the real deal nonetheless. (Look up a photo of bassist/vocalist Glen Benton!)

Re: Ac/Dc: Would any self-respecting devil worshipper trying to convert the masses write a song called "Big Balls"? C'mon now! They'd do something like "Crucifixation" (see Deicide)or "Decapitate the Nazarene Son" (see Violent Fury). And then you can't be sure... I knew a bunch of Christians who had a band years back with song lyrics like "chunks of Christ hang from my teeth" and "infesting with infernal sperm, must stalk more Christian prey." Image and intent can be different things...

Besides, those "gangsta" rappers who are actually shooting at each other and killing each other and slinging hos and crack around and rapping about beating up women are far more evil than any metal band could possibly hope to be.

Now, PRINCE used real backmasking on one of his records-- some religious/apocalyptic stuff.... I wanna say it's on "Purple Rain" but it could have been a later record... Something like "hello, how are, you, I am fine, cuz I know my Lord is coming soon..."

That's a little creepy. At least you know that the alleged Satanists (DEICIDE and a few Norwegian type bands notwithstanding) are kidding (or they wouldn't need face paint to look "evil").

I'd bet that you could find a "Satanic backwards message" "hidden" in the lyrics of Christian pop--but the backmasking busybodies aren't searching for it there. IT's similar to how one can sometimes "hear" words beneath white noise. Sonic coincidences can trick the ear into thinking that it's percieving words. In the case of religious people trying to trash heavy metal, add in that the people are sincerely hoping to find these "messages". In such cases, one will nearly always "find" what one searches for, one searches hard enough!

errrr, sorry roel, I'm a nerd. I was wondering why euro-trash was correcting my American english grammar anyway. :D

(just kidding about the euro-trash of course)

um, esactun, I think you missed a little sarcasm. Like the part about putting the subliminal message in the hook, which IMHO was pretty damn funny.

That's true! Once I made an experiment by listening to one of my group's demo backwards and I heard a lot of things that could have been heard as "words", once I heard a complete sentence (in spanish, of course) It wasn't white noise, but one of my songs backwards.

BTW to all the experienced engeneers over there, I have a doubt. Are all those "backward masking, etc. techniques real? I mean, can they be actually done?

:eek: LOL

Sorry to decieve you guys, but I think rats (or probably Roel) would be more suitable for the job.

BTW, I don't recall the exact words, but I recall hearing something like "Jesus is the truth" or something like that. No kidding! That struck me very hard that evening, because I had just became christian some months ago. Quite strange.

Much as I hate to show my age, I remember a big flap (no intentional subliminal reference to flapo) about subliminal messaging in the mid 1960's. The primary concern was visual use in print ads.

Back then, the liquor companies used to commonly use pictures of glasses of scotch, vodka, etc. "on the rocks". There would be lots of glistening reflections and optical highlights coming off the ice cubes, condensation on the glass etc. The rumor was, if you magnified some of those sparkling hilights enough, they turned out to be pictures of naked women, or "worse". Naturally, kids all over the country were poring over magazines with magnifiying glasses - but i can't remember if I ever found anything definitive.

this is a little off subject but.....

Today when i was recording guitars for a song, i layed down all of the regular tracks rythmn overdubs and lead. Then i realized i had extra tracks so i went through and layed feedbackcoming in and out at different pitches throughout the song when i did a little premix, I mixed it in at a low barely audible level when I listened back I realized it had changed the entire mood of the song. I dunno it reminded me of subliminal messaging.

has anyone else tried or done this?

That’s what I would asK, how wILL YOU eveR exPect Anyone to undeRstand a subliminal mEssage wheN they can’T even underStand the lyrics?

(That took much more work than it was worth)

:D

kill your parents.....took me a while to find that though..guess it doesn't work that way..ha

and It makes me wonder;

How is it not intentional Backwards masking if I doesnt make much sense forwards? Example;

If theres a bustle in your hedgerow dont be alarmed now, Its just a springclean for the maid Queen. yes there are two paths you can go by but in the long run, theres still time to change the road your on.

Said Backwards; We are all happy cause we live with satan.

You be the judge, after all these guys lived in a castle where a church burned down and killed the whole congregation, and the guy who built the castle on the site was the founder of the black church.

What about the Judas Priest trial? They were convicted of having sublimnal messages in their songs after two teens who listened to their music a lot commited suicide. Supposedly, you could hear the two words "Do it" in the backround in one of their songs. Judas Priest was eventually aquitted of all charges after nobody could prove that it was purposely put into the song.

I'm still trying to figure out why some dude taking a whiz on the side of a camel's leg is supposed to make me want to smoke.

I just remembered that I have a track on my album where I did some backwards masking as a joke. It's a reprise of a previous song, over which there are sped-up vocal tracks from other songs and backwards exhortations to worship Satan. I don't think I converted anybody.

To me, that's the point, does it really change your decisions or attitude towards something?

I've heard Stairway to Heaven a thousand times and I'm not any more sympathetic to satanism than I was before hearing it.

Maybe it only works in weak minds, just like the Jedi stuff :D
