Better Than You
I'm looking to run a subwoofer from my delta 1010. I'm using samson 50a powered monitor. With no sub out on the delta, do I need an outboard crossover? How would I wire this?

Toker, if I understand you correctly, there's an easy answer to your question: but a sub that has line outs for your current Samsons. I know that Samson makes two budget models (about $180 & $220), as does M-Audio, Tannoy, and others ($300-400). Just be sure that what you get has line outs; the M-Audio, I know, also has a variable low-freq cutoff that will send only the higher freqs to your Samsons, so there's little duplication.
I just went through this search myself and decided that the easiest and possibly best-sounding approach would be to buy a sub that's already wired up for my own small active monitors. The more I looked into external crossovers, the less I wanted to take that route. Maybe I'm just lazy. More knowledgeable folks here might know of an easy way to add a sub without line outs (like a home theater sub). For me, I decided to stay away from the home theater stuff since the prices are similar.

I've been looking into the Samson sub 120a. I know it has line outs, but I'm not sure if they are balanced. I'm guessing they are not. Can't really find any real info about the product online anywhere.
I am currently running a home theater sub. The Soundblaster/livedrive card had a sub out, which made it pretty easy. Guess it's time to spend more money. Never ends.

Toker - I'm using the 120a with 65a's. From the out on my board I run a 1/4 to RCA into the sub (both left and right) and then RCA to 1/4 into the 65a's.
On the back of the sub is 2 knobs. One to set the volume, and one to set the crossover frequency of the sub. I set the frequency to about 80 Hz (they say the 65a's are good to 45hz, but that's a load of crap) and I set the volume of the sub to about 6 db less than the 65a's using a cheap Radio shack meter.
