Sub on guitar rig?

The other day, i saw a band out of Norfolk, VA. Their lead guitar player had a Vox AC30 Custom Classic and a Budda head (running through a 2x12 Budda cab) and an SWR 30 watt bass combo. He said he was using it as a subwoofer in his guitar rig. Is this common?

It's not necessarily common, but a lot of metal bands that tune their guitars down to some ungodly tuning use them to add that extra bass that a regular guitar speaker can't handle as well.
