Sub $200 Monitors?

Fostex makes some small ones that should be in that range, but the quality is a possible issue. But that doesn't mean you can't check them out.
 
At that price range I'd probably stay away from anything with the label "studio monitor" on it except as a last resort.

I'd head down to your local Tweeter store and shop their $99ea bookshelf and multimedia speakers for something that seems to replicate your test CDs most accurately for your ears. This is, of course assuming you have an amp you can use for them.

The only things that are going to have a 1/8" connection are going to be computer speakers. For under $200, you could get a "higher end" (so to speak) set of Altec Lansing computer speakers complete with cheapo subwoofer, a combo that will probably actually do a better job than mosty pocket-sized "studio monitors".
