I bought a fostex 4 track recently and have yet to record on it. I was about to start, and believe it or not I read the instructions. But the directions show an electric guitar plugged into a mixer. Can I plug my guitar into my crate amp, then to the 4 track? that won't screw it up, will it? I just want to make sure before i dig in to this thing. Thanks!!

if you have a mic it would sound better to mic yer guitar amp.
if you have an effects processor you can use it as a d.i.

Hi nucmed,

Some recording desks come with a Hi Impedance input jack which you plug your guitar into. If you desk has one of these, you can plug your guitar straight into this input, other than that, if you are running it through an amp, make sure it has a 'line' level output going into the fostex, not a headphone level output.

BTW.. I don't own a fostex, however you do need to watch the impendance when recording guitars directly in.

You might want to try asking this question on the Fostex forum to get it answered quciker (I'm sure they wouldn't mind a newbie asking a question ;-) ). Also provide the model number when you do.
