A friend of mine, who is a beginner at encoding mp3 files, asked me what the options "blade" & "lane" are...& I had absolutely no idea.

Has anyone uot there heard of these terms, in relation to the encoding of mp3 files (or in relation to anything associated with mp3 technology)?

Or...are there any good mp3 resources out there where you can send me, where I might pick this info up?

Thanks in advance,

someone pointed me to this link in another post for answers to some questions I had. It is very informative.

those are "Blade" and "Lame" .... two encoding programs/algorithms.

not all 128kbps MP3s are made alike

jrosenstein,

Thanks.

Are those specific to any one codec mfg.; or are they general to all encoding software (& where can I get more info on these two algorithms?

Thanks again,

For best results use Lame VBR (Variable Bit Rate) encoding.
