Stupid amp question, please HELP!!

okay, so i have a 100 watt Sunn bass cabinet and my question is what is the highest wattage head i could use without blowing the cab's speakers? i know the number will be different for a tube or solid state so if anyone has any idea please help. right now i'm using a 140 watt hartke head (solid state), but may have the chance to get a gallien krugger 300 watt (solid state). will that be too much? thanks for any help!

get the head and replace the speakers with beefier ones.

You must match the head and speakers Watt for Watt. If you are using a 140W head then make sure you keep the volume low.
Overdriving the speakers can damage the speakers. Eventually you will hear rattles and buzz from the speakers.
